Benzyl alcohol is an organic compound with a molecular formula of C7H8O and a simplified structural formula of C6H5CH2OH. It is one of the simplest aromatic alcohols and can be regarded as phenyl-substituted methanol. In nature, most essential oils exist in the form of esters, such as jasmine oil, hyacinth oil and Peru balsam.

Benzyl alcohol is a very useful fixative, and it is an indispensable spice in the preparation of jasmine, moonshine.
