I would think it depends on your personal comfort zone. I'm from the South, my wife is from the North, and when we slept inside a bedroom in 65-70 degrees, I used the sleeping bag and had to throw on a blanket over it to stay warm, while she slept with a couple of thin blankets.

I checked my bag and you can open the zipper from either end. Therefore, you can open the bottom portion to allow your feet to 'breathe' while keeping the side zip. I hope this answered your question.
