SX technology has obvious advantages in lithium recovery from high magnesium content brines, such as larger throughput capacity, easier setting up, simpler process, lower operating cost. However, solvent loss and lithium stripping using very high acidic solution are troublesome problems for the SX application. A new SX system and an according process were developed at IPE, CAS, with water used as the stripping agent. In addition, the new system can lower the solvent loss. Therefore, troublesome problems for the SX application were successfully overcome.

1. A synergistic system formed by double functional extractants;
2. Li water stripping without changing organic compositions;
3. Lower water solubility, good phase separation, fast kinetics, lower price etc.
