What is Mucuna Pruriens?

Mucuna Pruriens, also known as cowitch or the velvet bean, is a rainforest plant is a source of L-Dopa, a compound which stimulates the release of catecholamine hormones dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. L-Dopa is also a powerful antioxidant. Mucuna Pruriens supplements are taken to enhance mood and increase mental alertness. It is a natural energy booster which provides instant motivation. The supplement is thought to increase alpha waves, generating heightened focus and concentration.

Part 1. Extraction process from ours and others

Our Extraction Process :

Raw materials(Mucuna Pruriens) → Crushing → Extract→ Concentrate 1 → Precipitation 2→ Refining 3 → Drying → Standard production

The Other’s Extraction Process:

Raw materials(mucuna pruriens) → Crushing → Extract → Column Chromatography →

Strong acid neutralization→ Concentrate → Precipitation 1 → Refining 2 → Drying → Standard production

Intruction:

Acccording to Extraction process 1(concentrate 1, precipitation 2, refining 3) , the obtained specification of L-dopa is different. ( we can obtain 15%- 20% L-dopa from Concentrating 1; we can obtain 80% L-dopa from precipitation; we can obtain L-dopa content over 90% from refining 3.

Acccording to The other’ Extraction process , over 85% L-dopa can be obtained from precipitation 1, over 90% L-dopa can be obtained from refining 2.

Part 3. Specification

Under the condition of not adding other substances, according to the process and customers’ requirements, we can produce different specifications of L-dopa(especially the content <90%) which contains other ingredients like amino acids and proteins of Mucuna Pruriens.

However using other process method to produce content <80% L-dopa(like use dextrin as diluent for content adjustments) , the product does not contain ingredients like amino acids and proteins of Mucuna Pruriens..

Testing the other amino acids and protein from the product can judge the process deference.

Tips:

The main difference between synthetic L-dopa and natural extract L-dopa:

1. Synthetic L-dopa contains D-DOPA but natural extract L-dopa does not contain, which D-DOPA have side effect for human body. It can be tested by HPLC.

2. Synthetic L-dopa doesn’t contain the original nutrients in velvet bean.
